Air India and Singapore Airlines have announced an extensive expansion of their codeshare agreement, adding 11 Indian cities and 40 new international destinations to their networks.
This is the largest expansion since the two airlines first partnered in 2010, creating more travel opportunities for customers flying between Singapore, India, and beyond. Effective from 27 October 2024, the expanded codeshare will see Air India and Singapore Airlines operating 56 weekly services between Singapore and India’s Bengaluru and Chennai, up from the current 14. This expansion offers enhanced travel flexibility and connectivity for passengers, particularly beneficial for travel agents looking to provide their clients with more seamless journey options.
Under the new agreement, Singapore Airlines will codeshare on Air India’s domestic flights, allowing Singapore Airline’s customers to access Indian destinations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar, Goa, Jaipur, Kolkata, and more. Meanwhile, Air India passengers will be able to connect to 29 international destinations across Singapore Airlines’ network, including key cities in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Additionally, Singapore Airlines customers will now benefit from Air India’s international services from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai to 12 European, Middle Eastern, and African cities, including Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, and Nairobi, as well as London’s Gatwick and Heathrow airports. Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, highlighted the significance of the codeshare expansion, noting, “This agreement enhances the global connectivity options for our guests, offering seamless access to more destinations across Southeast Asia, the Far East, and Australasia.”
Singapore Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Lee Lik Hsin, echoed the excitement, emphasizing the importance of the Indian market for airline. “This expansion reflects the collaborative spirit between our carriers and will significantly enhance convenience for travelers between India, Singapore, and beyond,” he said.
The codeshare flights will be progressively available for booking through both airlines, subject to regulatory approvals. Travel agents can expect further destination additions to the codeshare network, offering even greater connectivity for their clients in the future.
