Anantara Hotels & Resorts has officially launched in Austria with the reopening of the historic Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna, following an extensive renovation that redefines the property as the city’s first urban luxury resort.
Designed in 1873 by Baron Theophil Edvard von Hansen for the World’s Fair, the palatial building blends neo-Renaissance grandeur with modern elegance. Located on the prestigious Ringstrasse in Vienna’s old financial district, the hotel is now positioned as a key player in the Austrian capital’s luxury market.

The revitalised hotel features 152 rooms and suites, all redesigned to maximise light and space, with high ceilings, triple-glazed windows, and refined interiors. Highlights include marble bathrooms, Acqua di Parma amenities, and select rooms with private balconies overlooking the city. The standout Presidential Suite spans 270 sqm, complete with seven French balconies, a private lounge, a wellness area, and the option to expand into a 408 sqm four-bedroom residence.
Anantara’s debut also enhances Vienna’s culinary landscape:
- Edvard, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, delivers seasonal tasting menus with a low-waste, sustainable approach.
- Theo’s Lounge & Bar transitions from a daytime patisserie to a lively evening bar with crafted cocktails and regular live entertainment.
- Brasserie Sophie offers a global take on Austrian cuisine and monthly themed brunches.

Wellness is anchored in the 800-sqm Anantara Spa, offering a mix of Eastern therapies and modern treatments such as light therapy, body contouring, and facials with Elemis and Valmont products. Guests can also access a fitness centre and scenic jogging routes along the nearby Danube Canal. For the culturally inclined, Anantara offers exclusive local experiences, including guided tours of Hansen-era architecture, private visits to Lobmeyr’s glass atelier, and seasonal vineyard picnics. On-site, guests can participate in Spice Spoons cooking classes to master Austrian classics like Kaiserschmarrn and dumpling soup.
The hotel also serves as a hub for events, with Vienna’s largest ballroom (accommodating up to 265 guests), a private reading room, a boardroom, and eight flexible meeting spaces.
Located 25 minutes from Vienna International Airport (VIE), room rates start at €550 (approx. NZD $990) per night for a Deluxe Room based on twin share, inclusive of breakfast.
