AmaWaterways to launch second double-width river ship in 2027

AmaWaterways has announced AmaRudi, a second double-width vessel set to debut on the Danube River in early 2027, joining sister ship AmaMagna as the largest river cruise ships in Europe.

Designed to carry 196 guests across 98 staterooms and suites, AmaRudi takes the spacious format introduced by AmaMagna in 2019 and adds several new features. The ship is also the first in the company’s history to be named after a man, co-founder Rudi Schreiner, who grew up near the Danube and has spent more than two decades helping shape the modern river cruise industry.

Dining will span multiple venues, including Journey’s Restaurant, The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant with new Italian lunch menus, al fresco options, a Sun Deck barbecue and Rudi’s Wine Bar. Complimentary beer, soft drinks and a selection of more than 30 wines are included during lunch and dinner service.

The wellness offering includes massage treatment rooms, hair and nail services, a fitness centre and onboard programming led by dedicated Wellness Hosts. Recreation options extend to a full-sized pickleball court on the Sun Deck. A new entertainment space will house a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox, with soundproofing to contain noise to the venue.

Sustainability features include Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connectivity and lightweight construction materials.

CEO Catherine Powell said the announcement reflects confidence in continued river cruise growth, particularly among travellers transitioning from ocean ships who are looking for more space and choice onboard.
