Pangolin Photo Safaris has introduced the Pangolin Voyager, a new solar-powered houseboat designed to set a benchmark for eco-friendly safari travel and wildlife photography experiences in Africa.
Launched in July, the vessel combines sustainability with luxury, offering five cabins for up to eight guests. Purpose-built for photography-led safaris, the houseboat provides travellers with an intimate way to explore one of Africa’s most wildlife-dense waterways.

At the heart of the Pangolin Voyager is its environmental innovation. Solar panels integrated into the roof supply clean energy for both onboard systems and the vessel’s propulsion. UK-based RAD Propulsion has equipped the houseboat with electric outboard motors, enabling near-silent cruising at around four knots. The absence of engine noise allows guests to approach wildlife with minimal disturbance, enhancing both the viewing and photography experience.
“This vessel is the culmination of our ambition to deliver sustainable wildlife tourism without compromise,” said Toby Jermyn, co-owner of Pangolin Photo Safaris. “The use of solar energy and electric drives not only reduces environmental impact but elevates the guest experience with quieter navigation between our three dedicated mooring points.”
The launch of the Pangolin Voyager reflects growing demand within the safari sector for eco-conscious products that align with traveller expectations for both luxury and responsible tourism. For the travel trade, the vessel represents a niche but growing segment of high-value experiential travel focused on conservation, exclusivity, and specialist interests such as photography.
